Course Description: These sessions are intended to share
strategies for teaching reading and writing in the hopes that
new conversations will emerge among teachers and parents
who work with students in school and at home. We recognize
that reading and writing must be explicitly taught so that the
emphasis can be on the construction of meaning, drawing
on the individual’s prior knowledge, experience, background,
and social context. The approaches presented during these
themed sessions will support the school curriculum and will
include teaching strategies, impact of technology, content area
reading and writing as well as gender issues as they apply to
effective instruction.
Requirements
• Complete a two-page paper that summarizes your experiences
at the conference and, especially, relates what you learned at
the conference to your teaching.
